I wouldn't like to do so since I have borrowed the CD from a friend and it woulnd't be legal to activate them. I will try them for a month and then I will delete the relevant virtual machine. BTW Version 6 has still experimental support for Vista, so I wouldn't be that optimistic.
The audio adapter will either be a classic Sound Blaster 16, or an Ensoniq ES1371/Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audio PCI card. That's the drivers you need to install in the guest. I do have the audigy 2 specified as my audio card for the VM in the settings. To run Windows Update I must first resolve my networking issues. I hope it won't take me too much time. But don't I have to activate Vista first?

Big difference between full support and experimental support. Vista is not supported with WS 5.x as a host OS or guest OS. As far as I know Creative doesn't support such an old model, so there will not be a Vista driver for that. So all of us using VMWare Workstation and trying to run Vista as a guest, what can we do? Are we limited to use Vista without sound?

I would appreciate it if I had a fully working virtual machine to test Vista 32-bit on. It doesn't matter WHAT your host hardware is... Your guest will ALWAYS see a set of virtualized and/or emulated hardware.
VMWare Workstation 5 had problem with USB devices in Windows Vista guest OS. Every single virtual device works as expected. I had VMWare Workstation 4 for some time and it worked preferctly for pre-Vista Windows versions. I recently decided to create a new machine and install Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit for testing. When I select LPT 1 the port is connected without any problem, but it is never detected by the guest OS (Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit) and I cannot use it. When I select LPT 1.5 I get again the same error message with the AUTO setting. I will also try to disable legacy PnP support and try again, in case this matters... Nothing important, but I would like to use my Iomega ZIP-100 in Windows Vista. At least, I'm curious to see if it is supported and if I can install the Iomega Tools.
After a long period there was a blue screen stating that there was a problem with the file sbpci.sys[/b] Trying again in Windows 2000 compatibility mode didn't help. I tried to use the port in Virtual Machine. If I set it to AUTO I get an error message that the parallel0 device couldn't connect and it will start disconnected. The other options are LPT 1 and LPT 1.5 .
I searched a bit to resolve that, but I didn't manage to do so. It's not important, but I would prefer every single device to function as expected in my virtual machine, no matter if I ever use it or not... I also have some networking issues, but I think these are due to Vista settings, so I will try to resolve them myself before contacting you again. But please help me with the sound issue.

I downloaded version 6 Beta. I installed it at work and tried to create a new virtual machine and tried to install Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit at it. When it started copying the installation files, it failed with a message that it couldn't restart the relocator or similar. Anyway, I will try it at home later... 1) The game port has the driver installed but it complains about not having enough resources to operate.
Previous versions of Windows had "machine level" authentication as defualt, leaving the "user level" authentication to the network Administrator of the system. That's why I could see packets exchaning from host to guest but I had no access at all to the network. To change that you have to export the LAN profile to an XML file and then modify it to make "machine level" authentication the default method. Well, this is too advanced to explain here. You must also start the "Wired Auto configuration" service. Anyway, I now had full network access to any resource either from host or guest (don't forget to change permissions for that!), full working audio and USB support!
